CONSIGNMART

Check out this latest consignment we accepted. Our consignor acquired this stone sculpture from a Greenwich, CT. Estate 40 years ago. This and 2 others we are offering were exposed to weather and will need to be polished or lemon oil. The photos are of the stone wet to show the color. Dry they look like a dull gray color. Visible scratches and abrasions in it's dry state. This sculpture was made by Vaisi Chimavige and is signed on the bottom. Measures 20" x 6" x 8" and weighs 33 pounds. This illegible artist from the same group of 3 is more than likely one of the original small group of Shona sculpters from Zimbabwe in the late 1960s to burst on to the art scene in London, New York and Paris.  The sculpture is carved from Leopard rock, a hard variety of serpentine stone. This figure is inspired by Shona mythology which was common in the 1960s. Local pickup in Danbury, CT is available.
