We’ve noticed that an increasing number of customers need to track time in two separate time zones easily, without the need for extra hands or complex mechanisms. Historically, the solution was to purchase a dedicated GMT watch. However, for most people, there's a much simpler and more convenient option.

The majority of dive watches feature a "count-up" bezel, originally designed for diving applications. While we supply many organizations and individuals with dive watches, demand has significantly increased over the last two or three years for a 12-hour bezel instead of the traditional "count-up" pattern. This is largely because many divers now use dive computers alongside their watches—often worn on different wrists. The original purpose of the rotating bezel was to alert divers when their oxygen supply was running low. Since most oxygen tanks run out after about 60 minutes, the bezel is divided into 60 markers, each representing one minute. However, with the use of dive computers, this function has become less essential.

Thus, it makes sense to enhance the flexibility of the watch by modifying the bezel to serve another purpose, while still maintaining the 300m/1000ft water resistance rating and the classic dive watch appearance.

The 12-Hour Bezel Solution

The 12-hour bezel design is incredibly simple to use. Unlike dedicated GMT watches with additional hands, all you need to do is offset the bezel by the required number of hours to track a second time zone. For example, Miami is six hours behind Paris and most Western European cities. If you're in Paris or Berlin at 3 PM (15:00) and want to know the time in Florida, simply rotate the bezel until 9:00 appears alongside the 3 o’clock marker. Now the hours in Florida correspond to the hours in Europe—it's as simple as that!

Watch Features and Upgrades

This particular watch is based on a 1960s military specification for diver’s watches but includes several modern upgrades, such as a sapphire crystal and an automatic self-winding movement. The watch is housed in robust stainless steel, can be hand-wound if needed, and the movement features a hacking function for precise synchronization. It offers exceptional value for a high-specification timepiece.

Though this watch uses Luminova (instead of the Tritium used in the 1960s), it features an encircled “T” on the dial, honoring the historical design. Unlike Tritium, Luminova doesn’t degrade over time and isn’t radioactive.

Why Sapphire Crystal?

Many customers ask why sapphire crystal is preferred over standard mineral crystal. Synthetic sapphire is far superior because it's extremely durable, shatter-resistant, and scratch-resistant—qualities that appeal especially to military personnel, police officers, and outdoor enthusiasts, who make up over 70% of our clientele.

In over 90% of cases where a watch crystal cracks due to an accident, it's a mineral crystal, even if it's a hardened one. Sapphire crystal, on the other hand, is not only stronger but also undergoes heat treatment to eliminate internal stresses, making it even more durable. It’s finished with two layers of anti-reflective coating. This same material is now used on the latest iPhones. While sapphire crystal comes at a premium, it’s typically found only in higher-end watches.
