MWC first manufactured the predecessor to this 300m/1000ft water-resistant diver's watch between the early 1990s and 2004. Although some design details evolved during that period, the 1999-2001 dial pattern remains the clear favorite due to its readable, uncluttered layout and exceptional nighttime performance. This updated version retains the original dial pattern, but now uses Luminova instead of tritium, with the encircled T retained for historical accuracy.
Though the model was discontinued nearly 20 years ago, a distributor in Australia discovered 500 brand-new watches in their stockroom two years ago. These watches were originally made between 1999 and 2001, and had been overlooked in a final delivery. After quickly selling out, MWC decided to remake the model using the same design but with significant upgrades based on modern watchmaking advances.
Key improvements include an automatic movement with a 60-hour power reserve—an exceptional feature today, unheard of 20 years ago. The movement can also be hand-wound and features hacking for synchronization. Another major upgrade is the switch from hardened mineral glass to sapphire crystal, which is vastly superior due to its scratch and shatter resistance. Additionally, this new model has a 120-click bezel, compared to the 60 or 90-click bezels on earlier versions.
These watches are built using a case design originally created by the renowned Swiss case-making firm MRP S.A in the late 1970s. Other manufacturers, including Heuer (predecessor to Tag Heuer), Precista, Nilax, and Elvia, also used this design. The case design has stood the test of time, remaining in continuous production for over 40 years, a testament to its reliability and durability.
This PVD-treated case is often specified in military contracts for special forces and covert operations. The PVD process chemically bonds the black finish to the steel at a molecular level, providing a far superior and long-lasting finish compared to painted coatings, which can fade or rub off. While durable, the PVD finish can be compromised by deep gouges or heavy abrasion against rocks or other harsh surfaces.
The watch measures 45mm with the crown and 40mm without it. It uses the standard 20mm military nylon webbing strap, allowing users to choose from a variety of NATO strap options.

In comparison, mineral glass tends to crack far more easily, even when hardened.
