Tap Once for Singing
To bring your Whirly Pets bumblebee or hummingbird to "life, " it's necessary that you tap its head once with one hand, and then it'll play a tune that's similar to a real birdsong.
Tap Three Times for Flight
When you want your bird to fly, balance it on the included flower pad and tap its head three times. Following that, wave your hands above the bird's head and it'll launch into the air on its own. Just remember to move your hands out of the way immediately after you do your waving, so you don't block its flight!
Move Hands to Control
Once your bird is up in the air and flying, you'll need to control its path with your hands. Move one hand, palm up, below the bird to keep it moving upwards, and to move it downwards, flip your hand over and move it above the bird. If you don't continue these hand movements in order to control the bird, it'll eventually fall to the floor.
Catch Bird in Hand
After a certain period of time, your bird will begin to sing in the air, which means that it's ready to come down. At this point, you'll need to get at least one hand ready to catch it so it doesn't end up on the ground. Once your bird has been caught, you can repeat the process above as many times as you'd like, although you may need to plug your bird into your computer for recharging at some point. You'll need the included USB cable for that.

Two Different Birds
The Whirly Pets line includes a flying hummingbird and a flying bumblebee, so you'll be able to choose the bird you like best or even get both. Each bird is multicolored and appealing to the eye. Both are also taller than they are wide, and each contains a gyroscope within—two characteristics that contribute to their flying ability.
Led Status Light
Each of these toys contains an LED status light that will tell you when the bird is ready to sing and fly. If the light is out, the bird either needs to be recharged or is damaged in some way. It's unlikely that the LED light within each bird will burn out before the toy wears out, since LED lights tend to last for years.
High-impact Design
It's understandable that new users will make some errors at first when it comes to hand movements, sending their bird clattering to the floor instead of keeping it in midair. Fortunately, all of these birds have been designed to withstand a high amount of impact, so it's unlikely that yours will permanently break if it happens to fall.
Safe Blades
The propeller blades on each bird will stop immediately upon contact with anyone's hands, so no one's fingers will accidentally get clipped with them. To further add to the safety of these toys, each bird's wings contains wing guards that block accidental access to any sharp parts.
Charges Via Usb
Batteries aren't required when it comes to operating these birds, as you'll be able to plug each into a computer with the included USB cable and promptly get it ready for use again. Note that the larger end of the cable is meant to plug into a computer, while you must plug the smaller end into your bird's body.

Fun for Entire Family
Although they'll likely appeal to elementary school age children the most, Whirly Pets are suitable for boys and girls of virtually all ages, so an entire family can have fun with them indoors or out. The only groups of people they should be kept away from are babies and toddlers.
No Mess
There's absolutely no mess involved when you play with these toys, so if you have a few on hand and a large group of children coming over, they're an ideal toy to get out. They'll likely be a hit at birthday parties, and all you'll need to do afterward is store them somewhere for safekeeping.
Can Name Them Yourself
Unlike some children's toys, these birds haven't been given names, genders or personalities, so any child who obtains one can use their imagination to decide these things on their own.
Cats May Enjoy
If you've got one or more playful cats, they may enjoy batting at these birds and trying to catch them. In the event that you decide to include your cats in your games, just keep a close eye on the birds to make sure one doesn't end up falling onto one of the felines.
