Marcel Breuer's Story
Marcel Lajos Breuer was a Hungarian-American modernist
architect and furniture designer, known for the Wassily
Chair and the Cesca Chair, which The New York Times have
called some of the most important chairs of the 20th
century.
His work includes art museums, libraries, college
buildings, office buildings, and residences, among which
are:
New York's Whitney Museum of American Art (1966)
IBM Research Center in La Gaude, France (1961)
U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development
in Washington, D.C. (1963–1968)
UNESCO
Headquarters in Paris (1958)
He is regarded as one of the great innovators of modern
furniture design and one of the most-influential figure
in "internationalism" – a major architectural style
dominant until the 1970s.
Cesca Chair
Marcel Breuer created the Cesca Chair shortly after
leaving the Bauhaus in 1928 and named it after his
adopted daughter Francesca. The chair consists of a
tubular steel frame, rattan seat and backrest and
inherently tied to the material innovation and design
principles he formed at the German design school.
While designing the chair, Breuer found inspiration in
the tubular steel construction of a bicycle.
"Mass production and standardization had already
made me interested in polished metal, in shiny
and impeccable lines in space as new components
for our interiors. I considered such polished
and curved lines not only symbolic of our modern
technology, but actually technology itself."
Marcel Breuer
The Cesca chair was the first tubular-steel-frame,
caned-seat chair to be mass-produced. Now, the chair is
considered as one of "the 10 most important chairs of
the 20th century".
Manufacturer Details
As a leading manufacturer and supplier of Breuer Cesca Chairs
and chair replacement parts we have always considered wood,
metal, and natural cane as noble materials and this is reflected
in the final quality of all our products.
Through all phases of production, we maintain a respect for
nature and the many years that have gone into growing the wood
and cane we use. All our products are eco-friendly and made in
our factory in Italy. We use authentic solid Italian beech wood
with natural superior caning techniques used for over 50 years.
Many have tried to imitate our authentic products but they can
not duplicate our superior quality in craftsmanship. Our chair
frames are one piece and triple coated in chrome for long
lasting durability for years to come.
Since 1967, Breuer Chair Company's vision has endured – offering
high quality Italian-made products to the furniture and
restoration trade. Personalized products are available upon
request tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer's

Assembly problems
The first time I bought this chair it had holes drilled in the wrong place. My husband was able to put the chair together. He has tools and skills. I contacted the company to tell them they had a problem. They thanked me. Six months later I bought another. Assuming the problem had been solved. Nope. This chair had the same issue. Don't buy the chair unless you have it assembled and pay the huge price. Or if you have a husband with tools and skills. Love the chair, very comfortable.

Comfortable
Assembly os the chair is not very difficult although lining up the pre-drilled holes in the arm rests with the metal tubes proved tricky, I wasnt sure whether there are self-drilling screws included. One drawback: the illustration doesnt clearly show that there are small rubber/plastic pads under the runners which make it difficult to slide the chair, especially on carpeting. I wish they were removable.

Great Chairs! Difficult set-up!
I really like these chairs. They look amazing and are exactly what I was looking for. I did not know I would need a power drill prior to purchasing and was disappointed that there were not pre-drilled holes for each of the holes in the chair. I had to get a guy friend come help me and he said the instructions were bare and he would just wing it. Improving the instructions could help--the pictures on the instructions were for the chairs without arms which I did not order so we just had to wing it. After set-up, you'll love them!

Not quite the same
enclosed screws flimsy--heads broke off; no specific locations for attaching arms. Not as sturdy as the originals.
