This is for an original 1942 Orange Bowl program for the
game played between the Georgia Bulldogs and TCU Horned Frogs on January 1 1942
at the Orange Bowl in Miami Florida. This would be the first bowl game
appearance for the Bulldogs, and their star back Frank Sinkwich would dominate
the game. Sinkwich would throw touchdown passes of 61, 60 and 15 yards along
with running a 43 yard draw for a touchdown. The Bulldogs would score 6
touchdowns in the game, still tied for the school record in a single bowl game,
and Frank Sinkwich’s performance of 355 total yards is a record which still
stands today. With the Bulldogs jumping out to a 33-7 lead over TCU by
halftime, head coach Wally Butts called the performance the best he ever saw by
a UGA football team, and it might still be to this day. The game would be
handily won by Georgia 40-26, with the Bulldogs taking their foot off of the
gas to allow the Horned Frogs to score a couple of late touchdowns to make the
game appear close. Both teams would combine for an incredible 13 turnovers with
the Bulldogs losing 3 fumbles and throwing 4 interceptions while TCU would
be picked off 6 times in the game. This would be the first ever bowl game and first
bowl game win that sent the Georgia Bulldogs on a path to where they stand today, hopefully
on their way to their second consecutive football championship and a powerhouse
in college football. Program is in nice clean condition with the lower right
hand corner dog ears on the front cover and some remnants of old paper stuck to
the back cover. Everyone had a ticket to the game but not everyone bought a
program. Try finding another one of these. Who knows? Maybe the two teams will
meet again. A must have for any Georgia Bulldog fan.
