Boston, 1902. Two volumes. Thick quarto, original full tan reverse calf with hand painted salmon-fly designs and embossed cartouches on both front covers, beveled edges, leather straps with snaps, silk doublures, uncut and partially unopened.
Limited first edition, number 5 of only 350 sets, privately printed on handmade paper and richly illustrated with 75 full-page illustrations of fish and flies, and numerous in-text photolithographs of fishing holes and tackle. Contributors include such notable anglers as William Harris, Archibald Mitchell, John Quackenbos, and George Van Siclen.
Shelf wear, strap in torn, missing snap, bumped corners, toning, otherwise very good.
Originally issued with a separate oblong folio Atlas suite containing 12 extra chromolithographs of fish, which is extremely scarce and which this set lacks. Bruns says of the Atlas suite: "Of extreme rarity with the plates, bringing any price." Bruns J 33.
