In the version as a 12-speed shifting system, the mechanical 105 group relies on the tried and tested. With the deliberate renunciation of the use of software, it represents a tribute to the purest form of road cycling. Craftsmanship and inventive spirit meet pure shifting pleasure for the adventures mastered under their own power.

Inspired by the electronic Di2 equivalent, the mechanical shifting groupset also offers a large gear range and a low gradation. This not only allows you to climb any mountain, but also to master any road at high speed. According to Shimano's "Science of Speed" philosophy, ambitious riders get maximum performance at an attractive price with the R7100 components.

Also in the current 2x12-speed version of the 105 crank Shimanos proven hollow construction methods are used to enable not only a visually attractive, but also a lightweight yet rigid drivetrain component.While in the aluminum crank arms the Hollowtech II technology provides ample weight savings without compromising stability, the Hollowglide construction takes over this task in the large chainring, which is also made of aluminum. In addition, plastic ribs on the back of the chainrings stand for the unique structural design of the 105 series.

With the mechanical 12-speed components of the 105 series, Shimano offers a shifting system for the most diverse types of road cyclists. However, the ST-R7120 shift/brake levers are not only characterized by the fast and intuitive shifting quality typical of the series, but also know how to convince on an ergonomic level thanks to improved grip and optimized comfort features.

A wide-ranging evaluation of different hand shapes and sizes has resulted in a modified grip positioning and a revised brake lever and clamp design. These adjustments have reduced the distance between the grip body and the brake lever, which in turn improves the leverage and provides more control with less effort. In addition, the brake/shift lever for 2x12-speed drivetrain systems is adjustable in reach.

hanks to the natural deceleration feel of the hydraulic Shimano BR-R7170 brakes, athletes can test their limits even further. While their flat profile makes the Flatmount disc brake calipers ideal for use on road bikes, a 10 % larger pad spacing compared to the previous model reduces the risk of unwanted brake friction and grinding brake discs.

This reduces overall noise during deceleration, but without compromising braking performance. On the contrary, the BR-R7170 calipers not only grip quickly, but also reliably. To keep the maintenance effort as low as possible, the proven One-Way-Bleeding system is used once again, combined with a simplified bleeding process, which makes it unnecessary to first remove the brake caliper from the frame.

The RD-R7100 rear derailleur combines the harmonious, consistent and nevertheless responsive shifting behavior of the Shadow RD design with Direct Mount compatibility and a wider ratio range. Depending on the selected crankset and cassette, the Top Normal rear derailleur also enables energy-saving transmission with a ratio of less than 1:1, which is ideal for climbing and supports the rider when climbing even steep ramps.

The Shimano CS-HG7101 / HG710 cassette is optimally equipped for the most diverse terrain requirements. Whether sprints on the flat or steep climbs, with a gradation of 11 to 36 teeth, the 12-speed sprocket set has the right answer for every situation.

In addition to optimal acceleration, excellent efficiency when pedaling was at the forefront of the development, so that no energy is lost. While the 8 small sprockets ensure natural and comfortable transitions, the 4 large sprockets cover a wide range, but without accepting too abrupt changes in the gear ratio. In addition, the 12-speed cassette is also compatible with Shimano's previous 11-speed freewheel bodies.
