Condition as seen From Doctor Hugo Muench to his wife. "CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 16 —Dr. Hugo Muench Jr., former assistant dean and professor of biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health, died today in the Stillman Infirmary. He was 78 years old.
For 25 years before joining the faculty here in 1946, Dr. Muench was a member of the international health division of the Rockefeller Foundation, di recting its statistical work from 1932 to 1937 and then serving as an adviser on fellowships.
He was born in St. Louis, graduated from Cornell in 1915 and received his medical de gree from Washington Univer sity in 1918. He served his in ternship in Army hospitals and then was a county health of ficer in North Carolina before joining the Rockefeller Founda tion. He received a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins University in 1932.
Dr. Muench was a founder and diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
