Two technology demonstrator aircraft competed head to head in the US Air Force’s (USAF) Advanced Tactical Fighter competition in the late 1980s. The YF-23 was one competitor, and the other YF-22. Two single-seater YF-22 examples were built for the competition’s demonstration/validation phase.

Hot on the heels of re-releasing a 1/72 kit of the YF-23, its competitor YF-22 is now coming. That means modelers and aircraft buffs can now build and show off both stealthy contenders in the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition. The YF-22 was launched many years ago, but now it’s fortunately available again. Its well-detailed and well-engineered components fit together easily and with precision, reflecting Dragon’s contemporary standards.
