Absolutely Wonderful Vintage ca 1960's "Navajo Treasures" large 21 1/2" original carved wood sculpture by noted Southwestern sculptor Theresa Martin (1935 - 2018) == Educator and artist Theresa Martin began sculpting in high school, and her work has been exhibited at the National Cowboy Symposium, Western Heritage Classic, Golden Boot Awards, and graces a number of galleries and private collections == Great depiction of the Navajo way == Hand-carved in several pieces, wonderfully detailed carving and painting == West Texas native Theresa worked more often in metals, but she has certainly caught the spirit of the antique Southwestern wood carving tradition with this outstanding work == From the estate collection of Pat Andersen -- she was a lifelong collector and dealer of Native American art -- She and her husband were proprietors of The Indian Den in Santa Fe in the mid-1900's before moving to Lubbock -- Pat was a friend of Theresa, as well as Maria Martinez, Dennis Weaver, and many other Southwestern artists and aficionados == Weighs approximately 11 1/2 lbs.
