These established comfrey plants are organically grown and freshly dug for dispatch.. The plants you get will be a minimum of 16cm in length, and propagated from very vigorous stock.  It will be carefully packaged to ensure that it reaches you in excellent condition. This is the sterile variety, 'Bocking 14', so it won't spread all over your garden by setting seed.

Plant the comfrey soon after you receive it, water it in, and it will soon establish itself.

Comfrey has deep roots, so it takes nutrients from deep underground. The plant is useful in lots of ways:

  • Make your own organic fertilizer - just cut a load of leaves and steep them in a bucket of water for three or four weeks, then dilute the liquid to feed your tomatoes, vegetables or houseplants.

  • Use the cut leaves to boost your potato crop by lining the trench with them when you plant your seed potatoes.

  • Keep the bees happy - they love the pretty flowers.

  • Feed your hens or other livestock with the leaves.

The roots are believed to aid the healing of sprains, strains and other tissue damage. Comfrey has long been renowned as a remedy, as it contains allantoin, which promotes cell growth.  For this reason it has the folk name 'knitbone'.  (It is no longer recommended to ingest the plant, but you can use it to make a poultice or rubbing oil.)
