An original antique road map (in ribbon form) of the route between London and Marlborough. The map, published in John Ogilby's Britannia in 1675 (1st edition), is unframed, unmounted and hand coloured. The printed area measures c470x335mm.  The map features an ornate title cartouche with pastoral scenes (agricultural workers and cattle) and includes a miniature map of London. Geographically the route extends from west London (places such as Hammersmith and Brentford are discrete villages), through Hounslow, Maidenhead, Reading, Hungerford and Newbury to Marlborough. Among the named geographical features are Hyde Park, Savernake Forest and the Rivers Thames and Kennet. The map has good margins (which are slightly toned) and is in very good condition.
