An original antique road map (in ribbon form) of the route between Tynemouth and Carlisle. The map, published in John Ogilby's Britannia in 1675, is framed (630x530mm) and mounted . The printed area measures c460x330mm.  The map features an ornate scrolled title cartouche with royal arms. Geographically the route extends west from Tynemouth through the Tyne and Eden valleys to Carlisle. The principal places en route include Newcastle, Gateshead, Corbridge, Hexham and Haltwhistle. Near Darrington a small section of Hadrian's (Picts') Wall is shown. The map, which has been protected by Japanese tissue (possibly because of slight thinning in one small area) is in very good condition. It will be sold out-of-frame and mount to international buyers
