You are buying a PAIR of Chippendale armchairs bench made by THE NATHAN MARGOLIS SHOP, HARTFORD, CONN in the early 1940's. This chair is identical to the Chippendale chairs in the WHITE HOUSE (see Map Room which is decorated in Chippendale period furniture), the White House chairs are made by JAMES GILLINGHAM of Philadelphia. There is also a set of the same pattern chair in the prestigious WINTERTHUR MUSEUM collection in Delaware.
These chairs are made of solid mahogany...you may not believe this, but most reproduction chairs today are mahogany veneered. *What is extra special about these chairs is the the raised molded edges of the splat and the carved scrolled ears in the middle of the crest rail. Chairs have SOARING pierced splats, a cupid bow crest rail, and moulded stiles. The whole raised on cabriole legs with claw and ball feet.

CONDITION: Very good. Chair frames are sturdy and strong. Finish is very nice with nice sheen, FEW small dings here and there (that can not be helped unless you do not use the chairs at all). Slip seats were just PROFESSIONALLY reupholstered...not just simply recovered but new fill. I just chose a classic black faux leather for the seats, if you prefer something else you can easily recover the seats yourself with a staple gun. Chairs are from the early 1940's, the finish is great, IF they were refinished at some point in their life, they were professionally done as the finish is a professional closed pore finish. One scuff on the cupid's bow top rail of one chair (see detail photos 12 & 13). The other chair has some residue on the bottom to the splat (see detail photo 14).
