Now heralded as a healthy 'superfood', Taunton Deane is also known as 'cottager's kale', which hints at its history: it used to be commonly grown in British vegetable gardens up until Victorian times.  Since then the seed companies have focused on developing and selling us annual kale seeds. Taunton Deane is now coming back into vogue, and for good reason - it is much less vulnerable to pests and diseases than annual kales, and produces delicious leaves all through the year.  This means that it'll fill the 'hungry gap' early in the season when the vegetable garden has little to offer for the plate.

These cuttings root easily and they'll soon put down roots and begin new, leafy growth. Then you can plant them into the open ground, and in a few short months you'll be able to start harvesting the leaves.
