An original plan of MANCHESTER (Manchester and its Environs from an Actual Survey) published in 1824 in Edward Baines' History & Gazetteer of the County Palatine of Lancashire and engraved by William Swire. The plan is framed (560x665mm) and mounted and has a printed area of approximately 410x525mm. This beautifully engraved and detailed plan shows Manchester at a key time in its physical, economic and social transformation during the initial stages of the Industrial Revolution. It features a star compass, scale, two vignettes of the city from different viewpoints, a plan of the likely extent of Manchester in 1650 and four coats-of-arms. The plan shows streets, buildings, open spaces, rivers, canals and area awaiting new housing developments. Though trimmed bottom right close to the printed area (with no loss) the plan is in very good condition. NB the item will be sold out-of-frame and mount to international buyers.,
