This is a super dish in stunning condition but is also something of a mystery. It has the image of a very elegant lady to the centre surrounded by a border of bees. It is marked for SUJOL and the town of Marseille and the date 21-06-01 . Fuller address on reverse. The dish is 3cm deep and has a diameter of 13cm. I have tried to trace its origins to see if the image of a royal lady but have drawn a blank - any information would be very welcome! The dish is in excellent condition.

As an update to this listing I received the following information:-

this is the portrait of Mireille, de Provence with a border of bees
Mireille is the heroine of Frederic Mistral's work composed in 1859.
Mireille from a middle-class family is in love with Vincent, a modest basket maker.
The family opposes the marriage and desperate Mireille decides to go to Saintes Maries de la Mer to implore the Saintes.
But the Camargue heat is overwhelming and Mireille suffers from sunstroke which will be fatal to her ...
It's also a traditional female costume of the Arles region, in Provence.
