April 1, 1933, has the "function of a start sign," according to Israeli historian and economist Avraham Barkai. With him begins the expulsion of the approximately 500,000 Jews in Germany from the economic life. Only a few days later, on April 7, the Nazis are getting the next blow with the "Law for the Restoration of the Civil Service." It stipulates that "non-Aryan officials" retire. The "Nuremberg Laws" of September 15, 1935, and thirteen other ordinances of the following years, gradually remove all other possibilities of practicing the German Jews.

However, the German Jews not only lose their economic base. The regime also deprives them of their civil rights and excludes them from society. The terror becomes more and more brutal over the years, finally leading to the deportation and murder, the Holocaust, on the night of the Kristallnogold on November 9, 1938. Propaganda Minister Goebbels is already threatened at a rally in Berlin's Lustgarten on April 1, 1933. If the "atrocity propaganda" of foreign countries does not stop, then "the boycott of the national uprising will hit the Jewish race in Germany until its destruction". 

The philologist and writer Victor Klemperer from Dresden, even from a Jewish Originating family, the development looks already 1933 come. On March 30, he keeps a "mood like a pogrom" in his diary. He further notes: "We are hostages. There is a feeling (...) that this reign of terror will take little time, but we will be buried in a fall. "
