Here at WaKooshi we are proud enthusiastic insect suppliers and breeders with 20+ years of experience. We have also been developing housing solutions for insect enthusiast for the last 10 years. We were asked by many of our customers to help in the ant housing area which until now was rather lacking. Unfortunately most Ant Farms do not support the needs to keep an ever expanding colony or the flexibility to supply the full needs of different Ant breeds.
Commonly Available Acrylic Ant Farms
After
testing most commonly used acrylic farms available we found too much
light caused stress to ants resulting in poor survival of the ant colony. These
were also not very expandable and would not support most full colonies.
We
solved this light problem with our light blocking red module Lids. Made from
Red Plexiglas for superior colony observation while keeping the ants dark.
Most ants are blind to red light wavelengths so live happily in red light
conditions.
We
can supply solid black lids if requested.
This totally modular system means that the whole unit is endlessly expandable using our interlocking system. Also using out Tier Support System the whole unit can also endlessly expand vertically!
Humidity Control
Humidity is very important for ants as this stops eggs/brood drying, also keep the queen comfortable and encourage brood production. Modules which have the new and improved gypsum inserts which can be hydrated using the small hole near the gypsum plaster inside the module. These inserts hold moisture and provide the ants and queen with the ideal chamber for brood development. Hydrate the units slowly until the gypsum appears damp but not wet to the look.
How does it work?
All
our units are designed to connect to each other using our Link
System.
Open links are links with an open centre allowing passage from one module to another. Closed links are used to either stop passage from one module to another or to close and open entrance of a module. Both links can be used to connect all modules together.
Tier System are special links that are designed to support modules above other modules. These support links are very strong and will only require 1 support per module. This enables the expansion vertically if preferred. A Tube Connection kit is required to connect one level to another.
All Modules use 2mm Hex type screws.

Mercury Nest:
Our all new mini colony founding system A tiny outworld sits atop a hydrated test tube which provides unrivalled viewing of the colony growth. The unit has a Click Lock port which can be used to connect to other modules or connections using any of our Click Lock accessories. Included is a vertical test tube adaptor for use as a water dispenser. (This item requires some adult assembly - All tools included)
