Produced by the original Steinbach family company, Steinbach GmbH - Vereinigte Werkstätten Deutscher Volkskunst (United Workshops of German Folk Art).

The family owned company had made nutcrackers and other wood decorative products before being pressed in to war production during World War II.  The family fled in the face of the dispossession of private business owners by the East German state. They settled the company in Hohenhameln in northern West Germany.

In the 1990s they moved the company back to Marienberg in the Ore Mountain region of Saxonia (Erzgebirge) in the former East Germany after German Reunification in 1990.

This item was made in the 1990s when the family operated workshops in both locations.

The family lost the company in bankruptcy in 2015, but it was reorganized with the help of new investors and some employees and reopened in 2016.
