Introducing our new improved floor pans yes we have now taken our floor pans to the next level. We are now fitting an even heavy duty quality floor pan. Instead of 1.2mm thick floor pans we are now fitting 1.2mm thick pans. This makes a big difference on the feel and strength of the floor pan. Nothing wrong with the 1.2mm 18 gauge floor pans we have been using over the last 6 years but when something better comes along you got to use it.
At present due too high demand we do not have part exchange floor pans in stock.
The FlatOut Customs Range of Floor Pans.
This is brief view of the work that goes into our floor pans.
• All floor pans are strip back to the centre spine.
• All repairs are carried out on the centre spine if needed.
• We manually had strip the centre spline if they are not heavily corroded, if the centre spine is heavily corroded we will shot blast it.
• The new X/L frame head, jacking points, rear cross members are shot blasted and the hard to reach areas are epoxy primed.
• We dress off the factory welds and tidy up all areas on the new X/L frame head to give a cleaner factory look.
• The new X/L frame head is aligned with our special alignment jig. We check all the to our extensive data base we have collected and to VW 's data.
• If the centre spine did not come with a reinforcement support (extra support in the joining area between the centre spine and frame head) we will fabricate the reinforcement support and weld it in.
• We mig weld the new X/L frame head on.
• We triple check all the measurements at key Datam points.
• We align the rear cross members at the correct position and measurement before we mig weld them on.
• We Measure the area for the new floor pan to fit and trim the heavy duty floor to fit. All measurements are taken at key Datam points set by the manufacture.
• Once all the measurements are confirmed we re clean the centre spine flanges and the welded edges of the new floor pans before we add a coating of copper weldable primer.
• We now remove the old fuel line and install the new copper nickle fuel (we can run -an fuel lines if required)
• The new floor pans are mig welded and spot welded in. We triple check through this stage all the measurements to a key Datam points.
• We measure and align the new new jacking points in their correct position before we spot weld them on.
• If you we are building a early floor pan we will remove the battey hold down brackets and studs from the old floor pan and re weld onto the new floor pan. We will shot blast all the battery hold down brackets before we weld them on.If any part of the bracket hold down bracket is beyond being reused we will replicate the missing part. All 73- have new battery hold down brackets all ready installed on the new floor pans.
• We also remove the rear heater cable guide tubes from the old floor pan. We shot blast the guide tubes before we aligned and mig weld them on in their position.
• We remove the foot pedal assembly plate and throttle pedal hinge bracket of the old floor pan. We shot blast both pieces.
• We assemble our test foot pedal assembly, throttle pedal and brake master cylinder to aid with the alignment of the foot pedal assembly plate and throttle pedal hinge bracket. Once everything is aligned and the measurements are correct, we mig weld and spot the foot pedal assembly plate and throttle pedal hinge bracket on.
• We weld on one of our centre spline closing plate.
• We shot blast the whole floor pan.
• Once the we have shot blasted the floor pan we spray the whole floor pan in epoxy primer.
• We key the whole floor pan ready for the heavy duty coating (this is a hard tough coating not the rubbery coating on the market).
• Before we apply the heavy duty top coating we apply a poly urethane seam sealer to all the welded areas and to the areas that were coated in the factory. (we only do this on daily driver and top end finishes).
• We apply 4 coats per side of heavy duty coating to the whole floor pan. (This is on only the daily driver finish).
• We then retap and cut all the threads on the floor pan.
