An attractive and desirable map of Belgium illustrated with vignette engravings of Antwerp Cathedral, Monuments on the Plains of Waterloo, Altar of St.Gudule, Brussels and a coat of arms. Original hand colouring.
Some patchy browning as seen, otherwise fine condtion. Centre fold as issued.
Approx. 12.5" x 9.5" (320mm x 240mm) including the borders, with margins beyond. Would frame up beautifully.

John Rapkin was a mapmaker who was as concerned with the aesthetic value of his work as well as cartographic content. His fine maps are distinguished by the trademark decorative borders, vignettes and title displays. Rapkin worked in close association with the equally respected publisher John Tallis. The publishing rights of many of the maps passed to The London Printing and Publishing Company circa 1850.
