Plan of the BATTLE OF SARAGOSSA

Fought Aug 9th 1710 between the troops of the Allies under Lieut't Gen'l Stanhope and the Marshal Count Starenberg,

and the French under the D. of Anjou:

the Emperour Charles, and the D of Anjou (King Philip) being both present.

An original large 18th century copper engraved antique map of the battle of Saragossa or Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. 

A numbered and lettered key displayed in decorative cartouche identifies the various battle positions.

Zaragoza is shown in bird's eye view with individual buildings, and the River Ebro and surrounding area is shown in detail extending to individual fields

The highly detailed plan depicts this battle during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714)

 in which Spanish and French forces united in a struggle to unite their two countries under one monarch.

This potentially massive combined power of Spain and France was opposed by several European forces 

including Britain, the Dutch Republic, Portugal, the Duchy of Savoy and Spanish forces opposed to unification, usually refered to as "The Allies".

.A crisp dark impression on robust hand laid paper, with foldlines as issued, blank verso.

The lower margin is trimmed as issued otherwise fine, clean condition, free of repairs or restoration.
