A brief history on Steuben...

Steuben is an American fine glass and crystal brand, which makes the highest-quality decorative collectibles and luxury housewares. The company was founded in 1903 in Corning, New York – which is in Steuben County – and Corning Incorporated acquired the brand in 1918. Like their European counterparts, Steuben was originally focused on coloured glass, but began producing iconic colourless pieces in 1933 using a new formula from Corning Incorporated with a very high refraction index. These clear, modern creations, brought to life by the most talented artisans of each era, set the brand apart decade after decade. The brand remained in commercial production for over 100 years, representing the pinnacle of American craftsmanship and luxury.

In 1932, Steuben developed a glass with an exceptionally high refractive index that throws off an extraordinary rainbow of colour. This proprietary formula makes Steuben crystal stronger than ordinary glass, yet delicate to the touch. Its brilliant finish is undoubtedly a hallmark of Steuben Glass.

In 1947, Steuben was presented to Queen Elizabeth on the occasion of her wedding by President and Mrs. Truman on behalf the United States. Since then Steuben has been presented as a gift of state by every U.S. President, including an engraved Steuben bowl from President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan for the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1981 and Steuben's Mobius Prism which was presented by President Clinton as a royal wedding gift to Crown Prince and Princess Hirohito of Japan in 1993.

In 1953, Steuben is the only American glassworks to be included in L'Art Du Verre, an exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris and shows nearly 150 pieces, more than one-fifth of the exhibit

Today, you can not only own an American classic but in-fact get this elegant vintage Steuben hand-blown crystal art glass vessel. Undoubtedly, the finest crystal ever made, using an amazing full-colour spectrum glass formula. Sadly, when closed it's doors in 2013, the use for the 10-M formula stopped. Although we are more than thrilled that many of Steuben's most popular patterns are once again being recreated, they although still gorgeous lack the brilliance that the original Mid-Century vintage clear offered. In addition, with most of the "old-time master gaffers" gone they spend many years to perfect the craft. So, should you desire best quality Steuben Art glass the secondary market is the only avenue to acquire it, however, the chase to find better-made vessels blown out of original 10-M is challenging and rather rewarding. This amazing crystal formula is still one of Steuben's most guarded secrets. Its composition is why and how 10-M transfers the entire colour spectrum aka Roy G Biv without the need of facets to achieve this merciless wonder!
