Casas Grandes Effigy Vessel Paquime Pottery

Attributed to Casas Grandes (Paquime`) Craftsman. This Casas Grandes effigy vessel. The background color is a tan glaze with black and red polychrome paint in a geometric pattern. The top of the vessel is a head with what appears to be a headdress in black with graduated squares with black dots inside the squares. The ears, eyes, nose and mouth on the head are evident. The effigy is not Pre-Historic, but a reproduction. There are several types of Casas Grandes pottery: Ramos, Corralito, Babicora, and Carretas. Casas Grandes effigy vessel is Ramos and is the type most widely made and is known as Paquime.` Ramos Casas Grandes vessels are those where in the motifs and geometric patterns, the lines touch one another. This is very good reproduction of a Ramos Casas Grandes effigy vessel dating C. 1200 A.D. - 1450 A.D. There is an inscription on the rounded bottom of the pottery perhaps the artist's signature. It also appears that at one time there was a sticker label above the signature.
