This vintage porcelain doll is Jessica from the Yolanda's Picture-Perfect Babies Collection, issued in 1989 as a limited edition exclusively through Ashton-Drake Galleries. This doll is an original design commissioned from artist Yolanda Bello by the Edwin M. Knowles China Company. The doll's head with molded hair, arms and legs are hand-cast in fine, hand-painted bisque porcelain and soft cloth body and she is dressed in handcrafted clothes.
Jessica has blonde hair and bright blue eyes, which were hand-set, stands approximately 10.5" tall in the kneeling position, and is dressed in a two-piece pastel green playsuit with white bloomers. The outfit is adorned with white eyelet ruffles, ribbon bows and floral embroidered eyelet lace on the collar. She comes with her own blanket (shown in picture) so she can be safely displayed on a flat surface without damaging either the doll or the surface.
Yolanda Bello is the artist with a remarkable sensitivity to the inner child, which is what makes her one of the most widely recognized and respected doll artists of modern times. She has mastered the ability to capture every nuance of a real infant's gestures and poses. These lovable "character dolls" are greatly prized for their realism.
Yolanda's Picture-Perfect Babies is the first series of porcelain baby dolls to bear the name of the Edwin M. Knowles China Company...renowned for its long tradition of quality. This beautiful doll's design was retired on December 31, 1990, meaning the mold has been broken so no others can be made.
