PLANTING:  Use some method to break up the soil (plow, disk, drag, etc.) to expose the dirt.  If the grass/brush is tall or heavy, clear it away first.  Use a grain drill or no-till drill after preparing a good seed bed.  A hand seeder works good for small plots.  Drag, roll or culti-pack the seedbed and cover the seed with 1/2 - 1 1/2" of soil.  For best results and less weed pressure, plant in late summer (June 15 - August in the midwest).

RECOMMENDED DATES:  Far northern states through Aug 15, Middle states through Sept. 30, Southern states year round.

LOCATION:  Most food plots require at least 50% sunlight.  Soil test for nutrient and pH needs.  Requires adequate moisture, but no swampy areas.  

FERTILIZER:   Fertilize with a high nitrogen fertilizer at planting time, using 250 lbs/acre. Fertilize with an additional 100 lbs per acre every 45 days.
