An original antique road map (in ribbon form) of the route from Stony Stratford to Derby. The map was published c1675 in John Ogilby's Britannia (plate 40). It has a Hogarth-style frame (370x480mm), and is unmounted, with later hand colour. It. The map, which is the second part part of the route from London to Derby, features an ornate scrolled title cartouche with fruits and the royal arms. The road route goes via Northampton, Brixworth, Market Harborough, Leicester and Loughborough and Kegworth and crosses the rivers Nene, Soar, Trent and Derwent. There is extraordinary detail of topographic features, including the number of arches in bridges across larger rivers. The map has a slight, uniform age tone; is not stuck down; and is in very good overall condition. NB the map will be posted out-of-frame to international buyers. Check out my other items!
