This painting is superb. It is from Mexico and dates back to the Colonial Period before 1800. It has never been is displayed in sunlight so the colors and the patina remain superb. The hand gilded frame is 22 K gold and beautifully carved. The work measures 18 inches by 16 inches in the frame. And the frame, alone, would cost more than what is being asked for this painting. It has been in our family for generations and has been well taken care of. The primitive style is superb and the form and content are equally as impressive as well as the color palette. It is and oil painted on very fine linen canvas. And for our friends in the art world it has been a constant source of interest and speculation.
