This incredible work of art was carved out of a single piece of aged golden teak wood by Master Somsak Meewan to honor the kwai or water buffalo at Thailand's annual Water Buffalo Racing Festival. The carving was extremely accurate in scale and realistic in its form, patina and touch. The detail is impeccable. It is caved from the highest quality old-growth golden teakwood... the lines in the wood, which can be seen in the photos, give evidence of its age and quality. his piece has been part of Mr. Meewan's personal collection for many years and it was a tough decision for him to offer it up for sale. Mr. Somsak Meewan is considered one of the best (if not the best) living wood carvers in Thailand today. He is a fourth generation wood carver specializing in elephant carvings and hails from a long line of elephant mahouts (trainers). It a rare opportunity to be able to procure one of the master's non-elephant carvings.
