DECORATIVE LACQUER WARE BOXES LIKE THIS WERE (AND STILL ARE) USED TO STORE AND PRESENT ALMS THAT ARE DISTRIBUTED TO MONKS. THIS MAY TAKE PLACE IN THE TEMPLE OR IN THE STREE.
