This portrait of a Navajo Women was created by noted California artist Caroline Cameron. It is signed on the lower left hand corner. The subject matter is superb. There is nobility and dignity in the sweet and kind face. The expression and the pose are confident, yet relaxed. And the artist's brush strokes are sure and loose. Also the exceptional and limited use of color gives an outstanding sense of simplicity to the overall work. The general mood of the subject is one of serenity exuded in the beautiful soft gaze and gently folded hands. Although the painting leans towards realism, there is a definite comfortable abstraction in the work that is signature to Caroline Cameron's work. She always wants the viewer to feel her artistic position on her subjects. And that makes her work unique, much like the California artist and contemporary Helen Forbes, also known for her portraits from a similar time period during the last century. This lovely work of art measures 27 by 33 inches in the original custom frame. The actual painting measures 20 by 24 and is painted on fine linen canvas. It is being offered from our private collection for the first time. A great find.
