This lovely painting was created by Monterrey Artist Martin Looney in 1947.  It is oil on canvas. And it is housed in a lovely 1940's vintage frame.   This landscape is a mix of realism and primitive and exhibits a fine hand and style.  The subject matter feels as if it came straight out of a novel by John Steinbeck - a resident of this area.  It depicts a modest Salinas farm with the backdrop of pastel moutains under a grand and amazing sky.   The colors are subtle tone on tone and the overall composition offers a serene and tranquil result as if time had completely stopped for just a moment to capture this world.  This is a fine example of the lovely naive work created in this area where so many fine artist lived in the 1930's and 40's.  It has been in our collection for many decades.  And it is being offered for the first time.
