An Installation Guide
Following is a step by step guide to install Metallic Floor Finishing System using Shimicoat Products and Materials over concrete surface floor.
1.
Curing Agent/Hardener/Part B - Rapid
Cure or Normal Cure Resin – 110B or 100B)
2.
Epoxy Resin Part A – 105A /
High Build Epoxy Resin
3.
Tint/Liquid Pigment for
Basecoat
4.
Ultra Clear Epoxy – Topcoat
(100UC) Part A and Part B (100A and 100B)
5.
Metallic Pearlescent Powder
1.
Roller and Brush
2.
Extendable Handle
3.
Tray
4.
Notched squeegee
5.
Grinder to grind the surface
6.
Vacuum to collect dust
1. Prepare the floor by concrete grinding and removal of surface
materials. Ensure the surface is
perfectly clean and free of oil and grease.
2. Vacuum and/or blow out to remove dust from the surface.
1. Add your desired Tint/Liquid Pigment (basecoat colour) into your
High Build Epoxy Resin (105A) Basecoat – Part A, and mix well using drill
mixer.
2. Add Epoxy Diluent or Xylene up to 10% to thin the product,
especially in the first coat, and mix well.
NOTE: DO NOT count the
Diluent, Pigments or other additives as Part A, for example if you have 2Kg of
Part A, add 1Kg of Part B, regarless of the quantity of other additives
uses.
3. Prepare your tray, roller, Brush, handle and other application gears
and when ready for application:
Add Part B (Normal
Cure 100B or Fast Cure 110B) into the resin and mix for 2-3 minutes using drill
mixer.
Note: You are
now on the clock, the pot-life of the product is 15-30min (15 for fast cure/30
for normal cure). Do not waste time and
focus on applying the product onto the surface.
One person doing the corners and cuttings and one person the main floor.
3. Use spike shoes to walk over the floor and role to ensure uniform
surface.
4.
Use spike roller to roll over
any bubble that may have been released from the substrate.
5.
Monitor the floor and walk all
over the floor and continue rolling until you are satisfied with the appearance
and uniformity of the floor.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Poor surface prep or incorrect application may cause
bubbling and non-uniformity of the surface.
DO NOT RUSH, spend AT LEAST one hour after application monitoring and
ensuring its great look.
6.
Put on your spike shoes and
take the masking tapes off the walls as it will be too hard to take off when
cured.
7.
When application is complete
and you are happy with the appearance of the floor, let it cure for a minimum
of 8 hours, ideally overnight 16 hours.
As the curing process begins you may notice the accumulation of air bubbles at the top and around the edges of your resin or epoxy, especially where the surface is super porous and not primed properly. This is a normal result of the reaction occurring between the resin and the hardener. To remedy bubble issue, we recommend using spike roller, Flameless Heat Gun on low fan or some type of heat source periodically over the top of the resin as it is curing[1]. The heat will pop the bubbles, giving you a smooth unblemished surface.
1. When the surface is dry and cured, plan to apply metallic topcoat.
2. Add your metallic Pearlescent Powder (~10g per Lt of Resin)
into your Part A resin 100A. It may be
desirable the pearlescent resin to be prepared in advance to ensure pigments
are dispersed well into the resin. Mix
well using an electric mixer for min 5 minutes.
Add more or less of pearlescent pigments to your desired Pearlescent
Effect. We like to advise DO NOT
over-doze as the appearance become too rich and compromises on Pearlescent
effect of your floor.
3. If you are having two or more contrast effects, take out some small
quantity (~half a liter) of Pigmented Resin (Part A treated with Pearlescent
Pigment) and add you darker effect colour (Pearlescent Powder Pigment) into it
and keep if for effect and black/grey linings.
4. Add the correct quantity of Ultra Clear Epoxy Hardener / Curing
Agent (100B) into the Pearlescent treated resin.
NOTE: Now you are on the
clock, DO NOT waste time, initiate application.
You must be prepared for application.
One person apply the corners and edges using baby-roller or a brush and
another person apply to the main floor.
Pour the resin on the floor, and use a notched squeegee or a similar
tool plus roller to spread-out the resin over the entire floor.
5. Add the correct quantity of Part B (100B) into the small remaining
of dark/contrast coloured Resin, Part A (100A Pearlescent Pigment) and mix well. Mix for a few minutes.
NOTE: Now you are on the
clock, DO NOT waste time, initiate application.
Based on your tastes and desire, pour the resin on the floor, and use one
of your tools, baby roller or a notched squeegee or a similar tool to
spread-out the resin over the entire floor.
Using roller to spread the main colour (light) over the dark colours, to
make them looks faded, moderate and less obvious.
6. Use your roller to go over the entire floor till you are happy with
its appearance.
7. Clear the floor, wipe and clean all your tools.
8. Let it cure over-night (16 hours).
No driving or stretching furniture over the floor for 2 weeks. Treat it with care, especially during the
first few days.
9. It may take a couple of weeks till the Epoxy reaches its optimal
hardness and strength.
Enjoy your new floor for many years to
come.
