An original antique map of DORSETSHIRE (Dorcestriae comitatus vulgo Dorsett) by Saxton & Kip. First published in Camden's Britannia in 1607, this map is the 2nd edition of 1610, lacking plate number and without verso text. The map is uncoloured (as published); mounted; and with a printed area of 385x280 mm. It features a scrolled title cartouche, the royal arms, mileage scale, map dividers, compass rose, a sea monster and two  sailing ship. One of the earliest printed maps of Dorset, the map shows in great detail the county's towns (including Dorchester, Lyme, Sturminster etc.), villages, rivers, hills, hundreds and estates. The map is clean, dark clear impression and is in excellent condition.
