THE LITTLE KING
BY
OTTO SOGLOW
"Otto Soglow was an American cartoonist best known for his comic strip The Little King. His character The Little King first appeared in The New Yorker in 1930. William Randolph Hearst lured Soglow away for his King Features Syndicate, but contractual obligations to The New Yorker prevented The Little King from appearing immediately. Soglow then produced a knock-off strip called The Ambassador from 1933 to 1934. After The Little King debuted on September 9, 1934, it ran until Soglow's death in 1975. He was a co-founder of the National Cartoonists Society and served as president for the 1953-54 term."
This card is part of a collection from the 1930`s. Purchased originally from The Rendells Inc., in Newton Mass. in the 1970`s. The card measures 4 1/2 inches wide by 2 5/8 inches tall. Drawn in pen and signed twice, once stylized and once simply hand signed. The card had been glued into a scrap book and there the remnants of the scrap book page still attached. Displays well, and this rare signed and doodled card could be a highlight in any original art or comic strip collection.
