No date; circa 1921. Lt. purplish- brown full-cloth boards, pictorial design and titles in dark brown, moderate shelf wear, rub, discoloration. Cover design depicts young damsel collecting apples with ladder and basket. Pages good; some discoloration. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham with three wonderfully rich tipped-in color plates; sharp intact tissue guards. Also, seven full-page black & white illustrations in addition to partial-page imagery, headers, tailpieces, and decoration throughout.
Monochromatic silhouette endpapers at front, back of nymph-like beings collecting from the orchard. Elfin characters, mythical beings, dragons, and anthropomorphic forms abound. A lovely collection of poems by Eden Phillpott about different apple varieties, The Wassailing - or toast to health, and Cider Makers. Large 7" x 8 1/4" design.
