AMMONIA NH4 PROFI TEST KIT

Ammonia and ammonium are substances which should be converted rapidly into nitrite followed by nitrate and nitrogen gas.

If this does not happen then the aquarium is not fully cycled or biological processes are not proceeding as they should.

The Salifert ammonia test is very straightforward and measures the sum of toxic ammonia and ammonium in just a few minutes.

The kit can perform approx. 50 measurements and can detect 0.5 ppm of total ammonia easily.

CALCIUM Ca PROFI TEST KIT

Calcium is a major constituent of calcareous algae, skeletal material of hard corals and the skeletal needles of soft/leather corals. Calcium also fulfils many biological functions.

Quite often a too low calcium concentration retards coral and calcareous algae growth.

Nsw contains 400 - 450 mg/l calcium. Which is also the value we should strive for. For a stable aquarium environment the fluctuation in calcium content should preferably not more than approx. 15 mg/l. This automatically means that the calcium test should be able to monitor comparable fluctuations.

Our calcium test is capable in resolving the calcium content in 10 mg/l steps. The colour change is sharp and facilitates the detection of small but highly significant fluctuations in the calcium concentration.

The kit can perform approx. 50 - 100 measurements.

CARBONATE HARDNESS KH/Alk PROFI TEST KIT

Calcium alone cannot form the skeletal material of corals and allow calcareous algae to grow. Some other substances are needed as well. A few other constituents are carbonate and bicarbonate. These two substances also have a major impact on the stabilization of the ph in the proper range of 8.1 - 8.4. Such stabilization is also called buffering.

The total carbonate and bicarbonate concentration is also called carbonate alkalinity or carbonate hardness. The only difference between alkalinity and carbonate hardness is a conversion factor.

Nsw has an alkalinity of approx. 2.7 meq/l or approx. 7.5 dkh when expressed as carbonate hardness.

For a stable system the alkalinity or carbonate hardness should have a value similar to nsw or slightly higher and should preferably not fluctuate by more than 5%. This means a maximum fluctuation of 0.14 meq/l or 0.4 dkh.

Therefore an alkalinity test kit should be capable in measuring in steps smaller than 0.14 meq/l.

The Salifert KH/alk test is very straightforward. It measures in sufficient small steps of 0.1 meq/l or 0.3 dkh   with a sharp colour change.

The kit can perform approx. 100 - 200 measurements.

COPPER Cu PROFI TEST KIT

Copper is often used as a treatment for parasite infested fish and it is essential that the correct concentration is used as too high levels can be toxic to marine fish and invertebrates.

Tap water can also be naturally high in copper and it is therefore advisable to test for this on a regular basis.

The Salifert test kit offers a very sensitive and accurate test for measuring dissolved or weakly chelated copper from 0.05mg/l to 2mg/l.

Lasts for several copper cures or provides sufficient for up to 50 tests on tap or aquarium water as a routine check.

IODINE I2 PROFI TEST KIT

Iodine is present in nsw (natural seawater) in a very low concentration (0.06 mg/l or 0.06 ppm).

Iodine occurs as different species. Some of them are iodide, iodate and hypoiodite.

Generally when we say iodine then we mean one or more iodine species without a clear distinction being made. Nsw contains predominantly iodate and to a slight extent iodide.

There is however a misconception among many hobbyists that iodide predominates in nsw. This is however false.

Test kits which are not capable in detecting iodate might not really be suitable for aquarium use. Since in an aquarium iodide can be transferred to iodate. This means that if a test kit is used not capable in detecting iodate, a false low total iodine concentration (sum of iodate and iodide) will be obtained and the iodate concentration can climb far too high and possibly upsetting the aquarium environment.

The Salifert iodine profi test measures all naturally occurring iodine species such as iodate, iodide, molecular iodine and hypoiodite. No other test kit offers this possibility.

Salifert's natural-iodine additive is highly concentrated and contains a large portion iodate and also some iodide.

Approx. A total of 40 tests per kit. Measures iodide and iodate (together with hypoiodite and molecular iodine) in separate steps.

MAGNESIUM Mg PROFI TEST KIT

Magnesium is present in nsw in a fairly high concentration (1300 - 1400 mg/l). Magnesium is an essential part of chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis plants, including algae and the corals, which we usually have in our aquariums, would not be able to live.

Magnesium has another important function since in fact makes maintaining the correct combination of calcium concentration and alkalinity or carbonate hardness possible.

The measurement of magnesium and taking corrective measures are justified. Magnesium additives should be such that no ionic imbalance is created. Furthermore many magnesium salts contain sufficient amounts of ammonia to upset biological balances. Very high-grade magnesium salts are therefore required.

Magnesium is an element which was neglected for a long time. The magnesium content of some aquariums appears to be rather low when tested. Corrective measures have to be taken for a balanced reef system.

The Salifert magnesium test is very straightforward and does not suffer from calcium and strontium interferences when within certain bounds. It measures in sufficient accurate steps of 30 mg/l with a sharp colour change.

The kit can perform approx. 50 measurements.

NITRATE NO3 PROFI TEST KIT

When an aquarium has insufficient regions deprived of oxygen (= anaerobic zones) or denitrification proceeds incompletely then nitrate will build-up.

A too high nitrate concentration can result in unwanted algae-growth and these might irritate corals in their neighbourhood.

Nitrate as such also retards coral growth.

The nitrate concentration in a proper functioning reef aquarium should preferably be lower than 1 mg/l. Fish-only aquariums would usually show much higher nitrate concentrations.

Most test kits use a procedure in which a certain part of nitrate is converted chemically into nitrite and is measured as such.

Once again, just as with nitrite testing, amine interference has a major impact on the measured value. If such an interference occurs concentrations much lower than actual will be measured.

The range spans from very low to a very high nitrate concentration (approx. 0.05 - 20 mg/l as nitrate-nitrogen or 0.2 - 100 mg/l as nitrate ion).

The kit can perform approx. 60 measurements.

NITRITE NO2 PROFI TEST KIT

Nitrite is a substance that is toxic to fish and invertebrates.

It is a misconception that once a tank is through its cycle (first 3 or 4 weeks) that nitrite has vanished.

Many nitrite test kits suffer from interference by amines (such as naturally occurring and essential amino acids) resulting in a too low measured value especially if the nitrite concentration is relatively low.

Nitrite is converted to nitrate in properly cycled aquariums. The thus formed nitrate is transformed into harmless nitrogen gas (=denitrification). This happens in areas deprived of oxygen within live rock and miscellaneous filter materials.

Before it can be transformed to nitrogen gas the nitrate is first converted back to nitrite. When for whatever reason this particular cycle can not be completed, toxic nitrite can be present in significant concentration and readily be detected by test kits that do not suffer from amine interference.

These same ingredients also result in a full color development within minutes. The developed color is very intense making detection of even minute traces of nitrite easy. It probably is the most sensitive, accurate and fastest nitrite test kit available.

The kit can perform approx. 60 measurements.

OXYGEN O2 PROFI TEST KIT

Oxygen is highly essential for all life forms. Especially corals and marine fish require oxygen concentrations at saturation level. This is because of the low solubility of oxygen in saline water which is approx. 5 - 7 ppm.

The oxygen test measures oxygen concentration in just a few minutes.

Approx. 50 tests per kit. Range: 2- 14 ppm.

pH PROFI TEST KIT

The ph value can have a major impact on the growth of corals and calcareous algae and on many biological processes. The ph should not be allowed to fluctuate more than approx. 0.3 units during 24 hours and should preferably be kept between 8.0 and 8.2.

If the ph is too low then the cause may be a too low alkalinity and/or insufficient aeration.

A low ph can be corrected by improving aeration and by increasing the alkalinity to nsw (natural seawater) value or up to approx 25% above nsw levels.

The Salifert ph test kit is sufficiently accurate to monitor ph fluctuations of approx 0.2 ph units. Our kh + ph buffer allows fast and efficient correction of alkalinity.

Approx. 50 tests per kit. Range ph 7.4 - 8.6.

PHOSPHATE PO4 PROFI TEST KIT

Phosphate has several negative effects if present in a too high concentration. First of all undesirable algae growth might result. Making an aquarium an unpleasant sight.

Phosphate also blocks or retards the growth of corals and calcareous algae.

One of the scientific studies shows that a phosphate concentration higher than 0.05 mg/l decreases the growth of calcareous algae by 90%!

Washing fish food, which is a rich source for phosphates in a sieve after thawing reduces the input of phosphate tremendously. Also avoiding use of phosphate-rich low-grade activated carbon helps keep phosphate levels as low as possible. Checking the activated carbon for phosphate prior to use is therefore highly recommended.

Elevated concentrations of phosphate can be removed by using the liquid phosphate-eliminator or the highly effective granular phosphate-killer. Both also decrease silicate and organics content and adsorb toxic heavy metals.

Since phosphate can have major consequences when present in a concentration above 0.05 mg/l a test kit should be able in detecting even lower concentrations.

The Salifert phosphate test already detects, within seconds, 0.015 mg/l of phosphate. This makes phosphate measurement highly reliable and informative allowing timely measures to be taken.

The kit can perform approx. 50 measurements.

POTASSIUM K TEST KIT

Up to 40 tests

Contains:

  • K-1  20ml
  • K-2  10ml
  • K-3  10ml
  • 2 x vial
  • 2 x syringe

STRONTIUM Sr PROFI TEST KIT

In a marine aquarium strontium plays an important role in accelerating the growth of coral and calcareous algae and

Strontium is very difficult to test for, but if there is found to be a depletion of calcium in the aquarium then strontium levels are likely to be very low as well.

It is advisable to maintain a strontium concentration of between 5 and 20 mg/l.

Salifert was the first to introduce a strontium test kit and this test measures both ionically free and moderately complex strontium in increments of 5 mg/l.

Salifert produce both a strontium additive and a coral calcium additive for when corrective measures are needed.

Sufficient for up to 40 tests - for marine use only

SILICATE Si

Silicates are found in mains water, and can be transferred to your aquarium during water changes.

They can cause algae growth and also block some vital trace elements.

So the Salifert profi-test kit is ideal to accurately test the water, quickly and easily.

Silicates can also build up if a reverse osmosis or de ionising unit is not working properly.

So it's important to test regularly to keep an eye on the parameters in your aquarium.

The test kit has two scales. A lower scale which is great for marine water, and a higher one which is perfect for freshwater.

Contains 60 tests.
