Hollywood Dreams

Back in the days of Make Believe

in the land of stick swords,

tin toys, hopscotch and dolls,

there were palaces of fantasy

where you could live another life.

You passed through a jeweled gateway

with a ticket to nowhere

and wandered into a story

with a bag of popcorn on your lap,

staring deeply into darkness

waiting for the light.

Whenever a new tale came to town

it was announced with a great fanfare

of glamour, searchlights and neon

erupting into the sky like galaxies

for all to behold and marvel.

When at last the lights went down

and the show began

you would save the world

or run from monsters

far from home in strange places

console the downtrodden

or miserable in misfortune

share the love of the happy ones

follow dogs on the rescue

through the woods

be a Pirate or a Queen

hero or villain

in cartoon or drama.

Thus it was

in the time machine theater

on the avenue

Magic Shows

from Hollywood

where dreams really do 

come true.
