Haitian Painting Acrylic on Canvas by the Master Philome Obin.

The Painting is 24" x 36" and is framed.   

 About the Artist: Philome Obin was born in 1892 near Cap Haitien.  It is said that his drawing master at the Lycee, Mr. Berthold, pronounced him at seventeen a natural master to whom he could teach nothing.  Obin received no further encouragement for the next thirty six years, but continued to paint street scenes at Cap Haitien, military parades, masonic conventions, and the revolt of the Cacos during the American Occupation, considering himself the professional painter of the history of Haiti.  First recognized for his Frandlin D. Roosevelt at Cap Haitien, which he sent to DeWitt Peters at the Centre d’art, he is now considered by many as the greatest untaught artist, and is represented in the Museum of Modern Art in NY and by a mural in the apse of the Cathedral of Sainte Trinite in PAP.
