About this model
With the 2500 and 2800, presented on September 25, 1968 at a press reception on the shores of Lake Tegernsee, BMW returned to the luxury class after several years away: four since production of the 502, the so-called "Baroque Angel", ended. The two saloons debuted a family of six in-line cylinders with a combustion chamber of new geometry and a forged crankshaft supported in seven points and with twelve counterweights, from which comes the "turbine" operation for which those engines were known. The 2.5 liter produced 150 HP and the 2.8 liter produced 170 HP (125 kW), enough to put the 2800 in the exclusive group of 200 km/h cars.
