DESCRIPTION
A Chinese porcelain teapot stand of oval form with a strongly scalloped and fluted rim, dating to the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. Painted in underglaze cobalt blue, the central scene depicts figures within a waterside landscape with buildings, bridge, trees, pavilion, boat and birds. The broad border is particularly decorative, combining dense geometric diaper patterns, floral reserves and scrolling ornament. The scalloped outline gives the stand an elegant molded profile characteristic of refined 18th century Chinese export tablewares.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Decorative stands of this type were produced in China for the European export market during the 18th century and accompanied tea and table services. The combination of elaborate cobalt decoration, landscape imagery and a molded scalloped form makes this an attractive example of Qianlong period export porcelain.
