New Afrikan Freedom Fighter Day — Assata Shakur Rally Flyer

Original flyer announcing “New Afrikan Freedom Fighter Day,” a march and rally held in Harlem, New York, on Saturday, July 18, 1981. Issued by the Committee to Honor New Afrikan Freedom Fighters, the flyer calls for a march in support of the Black Liberation Army and honors Assata Shakur. The front features a bold red, yellow, and black design, with Shakur’s portrait above the event details and images of armed figures on either side. The reverse contains an extended political statement outlining the committee’s beliefs and objectives. A striking piece of early-1980s Black liberation movement ephemera documenting the political activism and revolutionary currents of the period.
