Göztepe SK endured a difficult 2021/22 season, finishing 19th in the Turkish Süper Lig with 28 points from 38 matches. The İzmir-based club recorded seven victories, seven draws and 24 defeats, resulting in relegation to the TFF First League after five consecutive seasons in the top flight. Despite a brief improvement in form during January, Göztepe struggled defensively throughout the campaign and were unable to avoid the drop. The season also marked the beginning of a new technical partnership with Umbro, replacing Puma as the club's kit supplier. The 2021/22 third kit, produced by Umbro, featured a distinctive claret and yellow colour scheme with fine pinstripe detailing, the club crest and Folkart sponsorship across the chest. The design offered an alternative interpretation of Göztepe's traditional colours during Umbro's first season supplying the club.
