Description
Condition: Used
This is a 1976 Martin D-28.
It is in exceptional condition—a rarity for this vintage—featuring its original pickguard, no cracks in the Martin body, and no strap pin installed in the neck heel.
There is a faint line below the left side of the pickguard; this is merely a crack in the top’s finish and does not extend into the wood itself. I have included a photo taken from the inside to show this. While there are some other minor dings, there are no cracks in the wood, making this an exceptionally well-preserved example from the 1970s.
It is truly remarkable to find a guitar from this era with its original "inlaid" (factory-applied) pickguard intact and no cracks.
The finish is covered in extensive weather checking, giving it a distinguished, seasoned appearance.
The neck is straight (with a very slight forward bow). The string action at the 12th fret is 2.6mm on the low E string and 2.3mm on the high E string, offering both excellent playability and superb resonance. In my opinion, it produces a tighter, clearer tone than current-production D-28 models.
The original Grover tuning machines operate smoothly and hold tuning perfectly.
The guitar has been serviced by a luthier and is free of any other issues.
It comes with a rare, 5-latch "blue" hard case. While the case is fully functional, please note that it shows some signs of wear, such as scratches and rust on the hardware; the interior, however, is in clean condition. Additionally, there is a small sticker from "Kikameya"—a music shop that was located in Kyoto at the time—affixed to the case.
