Walter Salles' Oscar-nominated film is set in Rio De Janeiro's central station, where Dora (Fernada Montenegro) runs a stall, writing letters for the illiterate which she never sends. One day, a mother and son use her services but when the mother is killed in a road accident, the boy returns to Dora, begging her help him find his father who lives in the interior. At first rebuffing him, she finds herself drawn almost against her will to help him and, through their eyes, the director offers a unique take on modern Brazil. In Portuguese with subtitles.
