Contents Include
Drawing boards, T-squares and triangles; abbreviations and conventional signs; lettering; shade lines; section lining; geometrical drawing; isometric projection; cabinet projection; orthographic projection; development of surfaces; working drawings; tracing and blueprinting; reading of working drawings; machine design; physics and mechanics; materials used in machine construction; screws, bolts and nuts; rivets and riveted joints; power transmission; shafts and bearings; belts and pulleys; gear wheels; metal-working machines; dies and presses; drilling and milling machinery; lathes; engines and boilers; electrical machinery; drawing instruments; logarithms; tables and index.
The numerous illustrations include geometrical exercises, lettering styles, engineering components, machine parts, sectional drawings, projections, shafts, bearings, gears and workshop machinery.
The book provides a fascinating insight into the world of pre-CAD mechanical design, when engineering drawings were prepared entirely by hand using T-squares, set squares, dividers, compasses and precision drawing instruments.
The preface emphasises the importance of combining practical hand skill with technical knowledge, reflecting the educational philosophy of engineering and trade training during the early 20th century.
Theo. Audel & Co. became particularly well known for producing practical technical manuals for engineers, machinists, mechanics, electricians and tradesmen. These books were designed as genuine working references and were widely used in workshops, technical schools and engineering drawing offices.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition.
The flexible black covers remain remarkably clean and sound with only minor age-related surface wear.
The gilt spine lettering remains clear and attractive and the blind-embossed technical design to the front cover is still well defined.
Internally the book is exceptionally clean for its age, with the pages firmly bound and the numerous illustrations and technical diagrams remaining crisp and clear.
There is only minor age toning and occasional light spotting consistent with a book approaching 90 years old.
A particularly nice example which appears to have seen relatively little of the heavy workshop use commonly associated with technical manuals of this type.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
