Authentic vintage Herend of Hungary four-slice porcelain toast rack, model 450/RO, hand painted in the celebrated Rothschild Bird pattern.
This elegant Herend table accessory features colorful butterflies, ladybugs, beetles and other small insects accented by delicate gold-painted branches and generous gilded trim. The shaped tray has decorative shell-form handles at each end and five gracefully arched dividers designed to hold four slices of toast.
Although the Rothschild Bird pattern is best known for its birds perched among branches, smaller serving pieces sometimes feature the pattern’s charming butterflies and insects without the central bird motif.
The underside bears the blue Herend shield factory mark reading “HEREND HUNGARY – HANDPAINTED,” together with the handwritten model and pattern designation “450 RO” and additional painter or factory-control marks.
Originally created as a toast rack, this beautiful piece could also be displayed as a small letter holder, correspondence rack, napkin holder or decorative table accessory.
