This program is in near mint condition. There is light wear with no loose pages, no writing, and no tears. The program is 9" x 12", which is slightly bigger than the programs of today. A lineup is included and was nested when bought. Please review the pictures as they are part of the item description.
The 2nd Annual Southern 500 was held at Darlington Raceway on September 3, 1951. There were 82 cars that took the green flag, led by Frank Mundy in the #23 Studebaker. Unfortunately for Mundy, he would only complete 12 laps and was scored last.
Herb Thomas, driving the Teaguemobile #92 Hudson Hornet, would lead the first lap in what would be a dominant performance. Thomas led over 300 laps and would win the race by over a lap. Finishing second was Jesse Taylor, followed by Buddy Shuman, Hershel McGriff, and Fireball Roberts. Thomas would average 76.906 mph in a race that only saw four cautions.
